Description:

1-Bromo-3,5-dimethylbenzene is a chemical reagent that can be used as an effective nucleophile. It is an isomer of hexane and tetrahydrofuran with the formula C6H4BrCH2CH3. 1-Bromo-3,5-dimethylbenzene can be prepared by the reaction of magnesium with chlorinated naphthalene in ether. It reacts with chloride to form a Grignard reagent, which can then react with butyllithium to form difluorohexanes. It can also be used to synthesize imidazoles by treatment with nitrite and hypophosphorous acid. The activation energy for the reaction is 40 kcal/mol.
