(R)-(+)-1-Benzyl-3-pyrrolidinol is an alpha,beta-unsaturated ketone that is a chiral molecule. It has a high affinity for the enzyme lipase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of fats. The carbonyl group in this molecule can react with nucleophiles to form compounds. This reaction can be used for the synthesis of enantiomerically pure molecules and for inverting the stereochemistry at a specific position in a molecule. (R)-(+)-1-Benzyl-3-pyrrolidinol has been shown to have biochemical activity as well.
