1,5-Bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane is a redox-active compound that can be used as an oxidant or reductant. It has been shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus by binding to the active site of protease, thereby preventing the formation of infectious particles. 1,5-Bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane has also been shown to have estrogen receptor modulator activity and can be used in the synthesis of organic compounds. This compound is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and chloroform and insoluble in water. The synthesis of 1,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane involves the reaction of ethyl diazoacetate with palladium complexes under oxidative conditions. The chemical reactions involved are oxidation of ethyl diazoacetate by palladium (II) chloride and reduction of diphenylphosphine oxide by sodium borohyd
