Benzoyl cyanide is a chemical compound that is synthesized by the reaction of isovaleric acid and ethylene diamine. It has an asymmetric synthesis with a benzoyl group on one side and an amino function on the other. The benzoate group can be converted to other functional groups, such as amines or carboxylic acids, through reactions with metal hydroxides or trifluoroacetic acid. Benzoyl cyanide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal models due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This compound also binds to apoptosis protein and induces apoptosis in cancer cells.
