1-Bromo-2-methylpropane is an organic compound that belongs to the group of trifluoroacetic acids. It has been shown to have genotoxic effects in both human and animal cells. 1-Bromo-2-methylpropane inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E2, leukotriene B4, and thromboxane A2. 1-Bromo-2-methylpropane also inhibits the synthesis of lipids that are necessary for the development of atherosclerotic plaque by inhibiting the enzyme acyl coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT). This drug is used in combination with other drugs as a treatment for autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.
