Barium aluminate is a crystalline compound that is composed of barium, aluminium, and oxygen. It has an active substance with a chemical formula of BaAl2O4. Barium aluminate is used as a catalyst for dehydration reactions, such as the synthesis of β-unsaturated ketones from β-unsaturated ketones. This compound has been shown to have optical properties and can be used in x-ray absorption studies. The crystalline structure of barium aluminate is similar to that of β-unsaturated ketones and it reacts with sodium carbonate to form β-unsaturated ketone.
