4-Butyryl-2,3-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (BDPEA) is a dipolar molecule that contains both polar and nonpolar groups. It reacts with water to form carbonates and hydroxides, with dimethylsulfoxide to form dipolar compounds, with acetonitrile to form acetonitriles, and with potassium to form potassium salts. BDPEA can react with ethyl chloroacetate or ethyl group in the presence of an aprotic solvent such as dimethylformamide to produce esters. The product can also be obtained from phenol by acetone or esterification followed by chloroacetate or dimethylformamide.
