Brovincamine is used to treat congestive heart failure. It is an analog of the drug sodium carbonate and it increases the intracellular calcium concentration by inhibiting the sodium-potassium pump. Brovincamine has been shown to have a beneficial effect on experimental models of congestive heart failure, as well as on locomotor activity and energy metabolism in rats. The drug also stimulates water vapor production from the respiratory tract and increases metabolic rate in the liver. In addition, it has been found to be effective at treating symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as muscle rigidity.
