Description:

4-n-Butylbenzoic acid is a diphenolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glycerin to form lactic acid and 4-n-butylphenol. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of lipid peroxidation in rat liver. 4-n-Butylbenzoic acid also inhibits the formation of heterodimers, which are important for the stability of liquid crystal compositions. This chemical is used as an analytical method for solanum tuberosum, and it has been shown to have antiparasitic properties against Diphyllobothrium latum (fish tapeworm). 4-n-Butylbenzoic acid is soluble in water and reacts with amines as well as acetic, malic, or chloroacetic acids. It does not react with monophenols.
