5-Bromo-2-methoxynicotinic acid is a constitutive activator of the MET kinase. It is used in treatments for certain types of cancer, such as neuroblastoma. The drug inhibits the c-MET kinase and prevents the phosphorylation of downstream effectors. 5-Bromo-2-methoxynicotinic acid also exhibits potent inhibition of protein tyrosine kinases. It has been shown to be orally bioavailable and has an elimination half life of 10 hours. 5-Bromo-2-methoxynicotinic acid can cross the blood brain barrier and therefore has potential as a treatment for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
