Boc-gln(Trt)-OH is a piperidinecarboxylic acid that has been shown to have cellular transformation activity. It is not active against retinopathies, fibroid, restenosis, or degenerative diseases. Boc-gln(Trt)-OH has shown anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties in mouse models. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and proteins. The inhibitory effect on protein synthesis may be due to its ability to bind to the amino acid lysine, which is required for protein synthesis. Boc-Gln(Trt)-OH also inhibits the production of nitric oxide (NO) in cells. Nitric oxide is a gaseous molecule that plays an important role in the process of inflammation and cardiac cell death.
