1-N-Boc-4-piperidinecarboxamide is an ether that can be used in the industrial production of sodium hydroxide. 1-N-Boc-4-piperidinecarboxamide reacts with a solution of sodium hydroxide and triethylamine to produce dicarbonate. This reaction must take place at low temperatures and requires a large amount of acetone as a solvent. The reaction yield is high, but the product is crystallizing and stable. The selectivity of this reaction depends on the reactivity of di-tert-butyl dicarbonate, which is extracted from the other reactants by crystallization.
