- Boronic acid, B-[6-(phenylmethoxy)-3-pyridinyl]-
- 6-Benzyloxypyridin-3-ylboronic acid
2-Benzyloxypyridine-5-boronic acid is an antibiotic that inhibits the bacterial efflux pump. It has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other bacteria, including Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, and Serratia marcescens. 2-Benzyloxypyridine-5-boronic acid has been shown to potentiate the activity of fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin by inhibiting the efflux of ciprofloxacin from bacterial cells. This may result in increased bactericidal activity against MRSA, which is resistant to many antibiotics.
