BenzyltriMethylsilane is a chemical substance that belongs to the class of stilbene derivatives. It is used in organic synthesis as a reagent and as a building block for organic molecules. BenzyltriMethylsilane can be prepared by the Friedel-Crafts reaction, which is catalyzed by aluminum chloride. This compound absorbs ultraviolet light, emitting fluorescence. The reaction intermediates are water vapor, hydroxy group, and carbonyl group. The product of this reaction is benzyltriethylamine.
The mechanism of benzyltriMethylsilane's reactions involves the formation of an acid chloride from an acid and benzyltriethylamine followed by an elimination reaction with chlorine atom to form an alkyl halide. Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) then reacts with the alkyl halide to form benzyltriMethylsilane.
