3-(tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxy)glutaric anhydride is a glutaric anhydride that is produced by the reaction of citric acid and sulfuric acid. It is used in organic synthesis as a catalyst for hydrogenation, cyclization, and other reactions. 3-(tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxy)glutaric anhydride has been shown to catalyze the synthesis of hydroxycinnamic acids from hydroxylated cinnamic acid derivatives. The optimum condition for this reaction is at room temperature with 1% potassium carbonate as a catalyst in water or methanol. Reaction time varies depending on the amount of substrate used.
