The synthesis of this compound can be achieved by an asymmetric reaction from natural compounds containing the desired chiral center or by using homogeneous catalysts. (2S,4S)-(-)-N-BOC-4-(diphenylphosphinomethyl)pyRRolidine has been shown to have antiinfective properties against infectious diseases such as HIV
