2-Bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropan-1-ol is an organic compound that can be synthesized by the bromination of 3,3,3-trifluoropropanol with bromine and hydrochloric acid. The reaction proceeds via an acid hydrolysis to produce 2-bromo-2-(hydroxymethyl)propanoate. This compound can then undergo cyclization to form 2-[(2E)-2-(hydroxymethyl)oxiranyl]ethanol. 2-[(2E)-2-(hydroxymethyl)oxiranyl]ethanol can subsequently be converted to 2-[(2E)-2-(hydroxymethyl)oxiranyl]ethanone by alkali treatment or oxidized with oleum.
