It has a singlet excited state and can be used in homoleptic electron transfer reactions. 2,5-Bis(trifluoromethyl)phenol has been investigated for use as a material to produce solar cells because of its high optical absorption coefficient and low cost. The morphology of 2,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenol films changes with the solvent used; this effect is attributed to the interaction between 2,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenol molecules and the solvent molecules.
