6-Bromo-2H-isoquinolin-1-one is an impurity found in the synthesis of the dpp-4 inhibitor, Metformin. 6-Bromo-2H-isoquinolin-1-one is a hydrogenated derivative of isoquinolone and has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. In vitro studies have shown that 6BRIO can inhibit the mammalian isoquinoline receptor, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the phosphodiesterase enzyme.
