Biindanone is a drug that inhibits the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries. It does this by inhibiting the activity of calcium-dependent phospholipase A2, which causes an increase in arachidonic acid, a precursor of prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Biindanone is a new compound that has been shown to have anti-tumor effects on rats with malignant tumors. Biindanone also inhibits tumor vasculature by reducing the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells and tumor lymphocytes. Biindanone blocks tumor growth by inhibiting cell proliferation in vitro and induces the death of tumor cells via apoptosis.
