Boc-Arg(Mtr)-OH is a chemical compound that has been used to study the effects of proctolin, a natural peptide, on cardiac hypertrophy. Proctolin binds to the protein receptor of the heart cells and activates adenylyl cyclase, which leads to an increase in the intracellular concentration of cAMP. This increase in cAMP causes a number of effects including increased levels of calcium ions in cardiac cells and increased phosphorylation of proteins. Boc-Arg(Mtr)-OH has been shown to inhibit coagulation by blocking thrombin activity and reducing blood clot formation. Boc-Arg(Mtr)-OH also inhibits the synthesis of proteins required for fibrinogen polymerization and platelet aggregation.
