Product Information
2-(Benzyl(1-benzylpyrrolidin-3-yl)amino)acetic acid (BZPAA) is a potent activator of caspases in the mouse spermatozoa. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in cells by activating the mitochondrial pathway, which leads to cell death. BZPAA is used clinically for the treatment of infertility caused by severe spermatozoa damage. This drug is injected into the testes and appears to be able to penetrate into sperm cells, as it was found in high concentrations in red blood cells and plasma. BZPAA induces apoptosis in blood capillary endothelial cells, which causes them to shrink and become necrotic. These results are consistent with an earlier study that showed BZPAA induced apoptosis in human lymphocytes and neutrophils by binding to histones and causing DNA fragmentation.
