Description

Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by binding to cyclooxygenase and blocking the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. Ketorolac has been shown to be reactive with human serum and may cause anaphylaxis or other hypersensitivity reactions. The drug can also cause increased glomerular filtration rate, which may lead to renal impairment. Ketorolac has been shown in vitro to produce nanoparticulate compositions, which are more stable than conventional formulations and have improved bioavailability.
Ketorolac is often administered as part of combination preparations with analgesics such as acetaminophen or aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or indomethacin.
