5-Bromopyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid is an analog of the anti-viral drug pyrimidine, which inhibits the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) by binding to the reverse transcriptase enzyme. It has been shown to be effective in inhibiting HIV-1 replication in animal models. 5-Bromopyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid binds to the active site of the reverse transcriptase enzyme and prevents it from interacting with other proteins that are necessary for DNA synthesis. This drug also has analgesic effects and is orally bioavailable.
