Description:

Bismuth subcarbonate is a chemical compound that has been used for wastewater treatment. It is a white powder with a low melting point, and can be mixed with sodium carbonate to form a paste. Bismuth subcarbonate is chemically stable in water at high temperatures, and has shown that it can remove nitrogen from wastewater. It also has the ability to adsorb substances such as surfactant sodium dodecyl on its surface. X-ray diffraction data of bismuth subcarbonate particles show that they are made up of an oxide layer, which is the active material responsible for their properties. The thermal expansion of bismuth subcarbonate particles is lower than that of other materials and this property makes them suitable for use in biocompatible polymers. Bismuth subcarbonate reacts with water vapor to form anhydrous sodium bicarbonate, which can be detected by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
