Description:

2-Bromo-3'-fluoroacetophenone (2BFAP) is a chemical that inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins in mycobacteria, which leads to cell death. 2BFAP has been shown to be cytotoxic against mammalian cells and has yielded high levels of inhibition against Mycobacterium smegmatis, Mycobacterium bovis, and Mycobacterium avium. 2BFAP is a thiazole with a phenyl ring on its side that binds to DNA by intercalating between the bases, thereby inhibiting transcription and replication.
