Product Information
1-Bromo-8-iodonaphthalene is a Grignard reagent that can be used in the synthesis of phenalenes. It is also used as a precursor to 1,4-dibromonaphthalene (DBN). This compound has been found to yield phenalenes oriented with the phenyl group on the lower side of the ring. The reaction scheme for this process is shown below.
The cycloaromatization of naphthalene leads to a carbonation and magnesium to produce 1-bromo-8-iodonaphthalene.
1-Bromo-8-iodonaphthalene can be synthesized in two steps from naphthalene and iodine. First, naphthalene reacts with iodine in an organic solvent such as ether or benzene at low temperatures, followed by heating to refluxing temperature.
