It is structurally related to the potent bronchodilator aminophylline and has been shown to be effective in humans by inhibiting airway constriction. 4-Chloro-benzenebutanoic acid has also been found to have anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
