Description:

N-alpha-Boc-L-asparagine 4-nitrophenyl ester is a labile, hydrophobic, and hydrophilic molecule that has the potential to be used in the construction of polypeptides. The N-alpha-Boc group is removed by hydrolysis, leading to loss of solubility. This compound can be used as an intermediate for peptide synthesis. The sequence of this molecule is shown below:

The second order rate constant for hydrolysis of N-alpha-Boc-L-asparagine 4-nitrophenyl ester was determined using a radiata pine seedling model system and a dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel. It was found to be 3.2 x 10 M/s at pH 7.5 and 25°C.
