Boc-L-norvaline is a synthetic peptide that has been shown to have anticancer efficacy in animals. It binds to the same receptor as norvaline, which is an amide with a similar structure. Boc-L-norvaline was synthesized by attaching an L-amino acid to the N-terminus of norvaline, and has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. This drug also has anti-bacterial properties, such as inhibiting the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. Boc-L-norvaline inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. The high frequency of human activity has been shown using a patch clamp technique on human erythrocytes. This active form is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation
