Description

Boc-O-ethyl-D-tyrosine is an analog of threonine that inhibits the deamination of the amino acid by competitive inhibition. It has a uterotonic effect and can be used to treat preterm labor. Boc-O-ethyl-D-tyrosine also has pressor activity, which is mediated through its ability to stimulate the release of glycine from nerve endings in the brainstem. This drug also stimulates the production of oxytocin, which causes uterine contractions and milk ejection from the breast. Phenylalanine, another agonist for these effects, is structurally similar to Boc-O-ethyl-D-tyrosine but lacks its inhibitory properties.
