Description

Boc-(3S,4S)-4-amino-3-hydroxy-5-phenylpentanoic acid is a potent antiviral compound that inhibits the replication of a variety of viruses. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of HIV by preventing the synthesis of viral proteins and nucleic acids. This drug also has immunosuppressive effects, which may be due to inhibition of serine proteases. Boc-(3S,4S)-4-amino-3-hydroxy-5-phenylpentanoic acid binds to an acceptor molecule in the active site of serine protease enzymes and prevents them from cleaving their substrates. The kinetic properties for this drug have been studied using a number of methodologies including enzyme activity assays and fluorescence polarization.
