Benzoyl-D-alanine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase in the body. It is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), bowel disease, and symptoms of resistant microorganisms. Benzoyl-D-alanine has been shown to reduce cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats by decreasing the production of reactive oxygen species. This agent also inhibits tubule cell proliferation in animal studies, suggesting a possible role for this drug in treating kidney diseases.
