Boc-L-proline 4-nitrophenyl ester is a synthetic amino acid that has been used as a model for collagen. Collagen is a fibrous protein and one of the most abundant proteins in mammals, which provides structural support for tissues such as skin and bone. Boc-L-proline 4-nitrophenyl ester stabilizes procollagen polypeptides by preventing their degradation and has been shown to inhibit the aggregation of procollagen polypeptides into amyloid fibrils.
