Triazole is a heterocyclic compound that contains three carbon atoms and three nitrogen atoms. It has the chemical formula of C3N3H3. Boc-triazole is an amine that is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, and benzene. It can be prepared by the reaction of triazole with bromoacetyl chloride in the presence of boron trifluoride diethyl etherate. The reaction is followed by hydrolysis using sodium hydroxide. Preparative methods for this compound include recrystallization from methanol-water or from ethanol-water. Azide ion is used as a reagent to convert Boc-triazole into a reactive form that can be used to synthesize other compounds, such as amino acids and peptides.
