3-Benzothienyl-D-alanine is a synthetic compound that inhibits HIV-1 replication. This compound has been shown to inhibit the N-terminal region of the viral protein, which is required for its function. 3-Benzothienyl-D-alanine has also been shown to inhibit chemokines, which are proteins that recruit leukocytes and other inflammatory cells to sites of infection.
