Boc-DL-valine is an amino acid derivative that is a methyl ester. It has a number of uses, including as a building block for the synthesis of peptides and proteins, as a chiral stationary phase in chromatography, and as an experimental tool in spectroscopy. Boc-DL-valine can be used to separate optical isomers by adsorption on β-cyclodextrin or octanol. This compound has been shown to have a number of functions, including being able to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens.
