Beta-tert-Butyl-DL-alanine is an amino acid that has been synthesized by using the asymmetric synthesis. It contains a tertiary amine function and has a chemical structure of C3H7NO2. Beta-tert-Butyl-DL-alanine is used in the synthesis of insulin and other insulin analogues, as well as in the production of pharmaceuticals to treat high blood pressure. The amino acid can be obtained from l-tert-leucine by adding trifluoroacetic acid to obtain an amide bond. The product is then hydrolyzed by heating it with water to remove the protecting group (beta). This process produces beta-amino acid, which can be converted into beta-amino alcohols or amides. The beta amino acids can also be synthesized by using nucleobases.
