Product Information

Name:
O-Benzyl-D-threonine
Synonyms:
  • D-Thr(Bzl)-OH
Description:

O-Benzyl-D-threonine is a threonine derivative that is synthesized by the acylation of benzaldehyde with L-alanine. It has been used as an inhibitor of acylase enzymes, which are involved in the metabolism of long-chain fatty acids. O-Benzyl-D-threonine has also been shown to have antihypertensive effects. This compound has been found to have a diastereoisomeric ratio of 1:1, which can be determined by chromatography. The synthesis of O-benzyl D-threonine starts with the reaction between carbodiimide and tertbutanol, followed by hydrolysis with sodium hydroxide. This process produces oxazolones, which are then reacted with ammonia or ammonium chloride to produce O-benzyl D-threonine.
