- Tert-Butyl 2-Formylpyrrolidine-1-Carboxylate
- N-Boc-D-prolinal
Boc-D-prolinal is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. Studies have shown that it has a cerebral profile, with high brain uptake and low cerebellar uptake. Boc-D-prolinal yields noninvasive pharmacological effects in the rat brain, producing an increase in acetylcholine release and an enhancement of cholinergic neurotransmission. It is also a potent nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist, with a profile similar to nicotine and carbamylcholine. Acetylcholine receptors are found in the central nervous system and peripheral sympathetic ganglia, where they are involved in neuromuscular transmission. This drug binds to these receptors and activates them by mimicking the natural neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Boc-D-prolinal is used as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) studies of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
