Description:
5-Bromo-Benzofuran-3-One is a natural product that belongs to the class of aurones. This compound has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of phytoalexin production in the fruit and flowers of plants, such as coreopsis. It can also inhibit growth of human leukemia cells (K562) by inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. 5-Bromo-Benzofuran-3-One has been found to be a competitive inhibitor of hepg2 cell lines, which are known to produce benzofuranone through hydrolysis reaction. The specific mechanism is not yet clear, but it may involve nucleophilic attack on the α carbon atom in the hepg2 cell line's benzofuranone molecule.
