3-Bromo-6-azaindole is a molecule that is reactive to phosphate groups. It is an inhibitor of enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of polyols, such as glycerol, sorbitol and mannitol. 3-Bromo-6-azaindole also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by monoclonal antibodies, which may be useful for degenerative diseases such as chronic bronchitis and asthma. 3-Bromo-6-azaindole has been synthesized in particle form and shown to have affinity for carbohydrates. This synthetic molecule has not been used in diagnostic tests or treatments yet.
