Description:
1-Boc-2,5-Bis-Hydroxymethyl-Pyrrolidine is a mesylated analogue of benzylamine. It can be synthesized by the reaction of 1,4-benzenediol with 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)pyrrole in the presence of an excess of sodium methoxide to form mesylate. The synthesis may be scaled up by using a basic medium and heating at reflux for 3 hours. This process provides a high degree of diversity in the molecule because of the different substituents on the nitrogen atom.
