2-Bromothiazole-4-carbaldehyde is a molecule that belongs to the class of quinoline derivatives. It has been shown to activate bacterial strains, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria that are resistant to traditional antibiotics. The 2-bromothiazole-4-carbaldehyde can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of a number of biologically active molecules, such as carbostyril, siderophores and aeruginol. This molecule is synthesized by an organocatalytic reaction in which the bromoacetyl group is activated by a thiourea catalyst. The use of this intermediate in the synthesis of other molecules may lead to new treatments for bacterial infections.
