4'-Bromochalcone is a chalcone derivative that is used as a synthetic intermediate. It can be prepared by the cross-coupling of disulfides and epoxides with radical mechanism in an efficient method. The product can be obtained from β-unsaturated ketones, such as acetonitrile, indian, chloride, and sodium sulfide. 4'-Bromochalcone has cytotoxic effects on cancer cell lines. In addition, it has been reported to inhibit the proliferation of rat hepatoma cells and human breast cancer cells in vitro.
