5-Bromo-2-hydroxypyridine is a synthetic chemical compound that has the formula CHBrOH. It can be prepared by the reaction of 2 moles of bromoethane with 1 mole of pyridine in an amination reaction. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxypyridine is used to synthesize pharmaceuticals, such as antifungal drugs, and also to produce fluorine atoms for research purposes. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxypyridine can be obtained by hydrogenolysis of 2,5-dibromopyridine, which undergoes nucleophilic substitution on the carbon atom adjacent to the bromine atom. This process requires solvents such as benzene or chloroform.
