Product Information
- 5-Bromo-2(3H)-benzoxazolethione
5-Bromobenzo[d]oxazole-2-thiol (5BBDO) is a membrane transport inhibitor that binds to the proton pump in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. It has been shown to inhibit the transport of both endogenous and exogenous compounds across the membrane, which may be due to its interaction with 2-mercaptobenzoxazole. 5BBDO is active against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica, but not against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Enterococcus faecalis. 5BBDO has been found to have pleiotropic effects on many bacterial strains, including resistance to antimicrobial agents. This resistance is due to an efflux mechanism that pumps out the drug from the cell by an unknown mechanism. 5BBDO also inhibits c. glabrata, a fungus that causes mucorm
