Description:

2-Bromo-3-fluoro-5-chloropyridine is a chlorinating agent that is used to make other chemicals. It can be made by the reaction of hydrochloric acid with ethylamine and ethylene, or by neutralizing 2,2'-dibromo-3,3'-difluorobenzidine with sodium bicarbonate. The product can be further reacted with sodium hydroxide to yield 2,2'-dibromo-3,3'-dichloropropiophenone. A related chemical, 2-bromo-5-chloropyridine, is an effective pesticide. This compound can also be synthesized through the reaction of hydrochloric acid with ethyl amine and ethylene. In this synthesis, the product is basic due to the presence of ammonia in the reactants. The compound has been shown to be a catalyst for many reactions such as deprotonation
