Description:
4-tert-Butylbenzoic acid methyl ester is an industrial chemical that is used as a solvent for paints, lacquers, and varnishes. It has a high viscosity, soluble in water and organic solvents, and can be used as a reaction medium or a catalyst. 4-tert-Butylbenzoic acid methyl ester can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of 3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid. This product is produced by refluxing 4-tert-butylbenzoic acid with ethylene diamine and water in the presence of dilute acids. The experimental solubility data for this product are given at 25°C and 1 atm pressure. This product is also susceptible to oxidation by air or light.
