3-Bromo-4-chloropyridine is a target compound that inhibits the transport of chloride in cells. It has been shown to inhibit acid transporter activity by binding to the sulphuryl group, which is a part of the transporter. The coupling reaction between 3-bromo-4-chloropyridine and sulphuryl chloride was optimized for maximum yield. The optimal reaction conditions were found to be at pH 12 and in the presence of sodium bicarbonate or potassium carbonate. This compound can be used as an inhibitor for sulphur transporters, such as the one that transports boronic acid.
